The Park and Gardens of the Château of Beauregard
The vast park and surrounding gardens constitute a remarkable setting for the Château of Beauregard, with its famous "Galerie des Illustres" (Gallery of Fame) containing 327 portraits of historic figures.
Stroll around this garden composed of 12 green spaces which skillfully combine French and English-style gardens. Each space evokes people featured in the Château's portrait gallery and is surrounded by hornbeam and gives pride of place to the use of colour. Perennials and shrubs grow freely and offer a whole spectrum of colours that change with the passing of the seasons.
Colour is everywhere in this vast 40-hectare park, especially in the Verger des Ecorces (the Bark Orchard). Follow the Allée des Artistes (Artists' Alley) where the works of different artists can be seen changing over time. A particularly unusual tree will reveal a bit of French history: did Magellan really travel round the world? How many assassination attempts did the French king Henry IV escape from? The tree will provide you with all the anwsers!
Young visitors will also enjoy the presence of local residents, including the rare chickens with evocative names such as Cocotte III, Duchesse Codec and Perdrix du pays de Brahma, and the head of the flock of Sologne sheep called Marquis Hugo III de Solognot.
