The park and gardens of the Château of Azay-le-Ferron: order and fantasy in a French-style garden and an English-style park

French or English style? Why not both? At the heart of the Brenne Regional Natural Park, the meticulously designed park and gardens of the Château of Azay-le-Ferron comprise 25 hectares of verdant plant life. From the park (which was redesigned in the 19th century by the famous Bülher brothers) to the Flower Garden, paths and walkways provide ample opportunity for a peaceful stroll.

The elegance of a French-style garden

In the French-style garden, yews are ordered and trimmed with such precision they almost look like giant chess pieces. On the lawns, topiary bushes grow in a range of elegant shapes. Conical, rounded and tiered, they are a testimony the gardeners’ skill!

The English-style park

The English-style park exudes a sense of freedom, peace and serenity and seems to grow randomly. However, beneath its appearance, the exacting meticulousness with which it was designed secretly contributes to the overall sense of liberty. The 100-year-old trees, for example, were carefully planted to provide views that irresistibly draw the eye.

The park features a “tree circuit” to allow visitors to admire the different species. The route winds along paths and crosses groves to reveal the full richness of the place.
