Restoration of the drawbridge tower at the Château of Langeais

For the past few years the Château of Langeais has been undergoing major restoration work. Roofs, masonry, woodwork... now it’s the Tour de l’Ecrin’s turn to be restored to its former glory!

For three years the Château of Langeais has been carrying out a major restoration campaign to showcase this unique Loire Valley heritage. Stonemasons, roofers, carpenters… it has required several different professions to execute this large-scale project, currently addressing the south tower of the castle. Although the size and solidity of the drawbridge tower make it an impressive sight already, it will now be restored to its former glory to give visitors a truly fitting welcome! The restoration project follows on from the one on the facade of the house of Rabelais and the priceless reliquary shrine, now listed as a Historic Monument. It will give a dose of youthfulness to the château, whose foundations were first laid in the late 10th century.
