Odonates – niveau 1

Presentation

This course, led by Stéphane Jaulin, entomologist at OPIE and head of Opie's Occitanie branch, offers an overview of the world of odonates, covering their identification, biology and ecology, and their role in the management of aquatic environments.
With 98 species in France, the Odonata represent a small group of insects whose identification remains relatively accessible. Considered as good descriptors of the structure of aquatic environments and their diversity in microhabitats, odonates are a key group in the study and monitoring of these environments. With nearly a third of the species
listed in the National Odonate Action Plan, the diversity of species and the health of populations are also indicative of the functioning of wetlands. Aimed at beginners, this course offers an overview of the world of odonates and their habitats, with an emphasis on a practical approach in the field.
