Accueil Organise your stay Visits Museums & interpretation centres The Stuarts’ Castle – Centre d’Interprétation de l’Auld Alliance
About the monument :
The Auld Alliance Interpretation Center is located in the grounds of the Castle of the Stuarts. Built in the early 16th century by Robert Stuart of Lennox, Marshal of France, it was remodeled and embellished by the Duchess of Portsmouth Louise de Keroualle in the 18th century. On the entrance facade of the châtelet, the coat of arms of the Stuarts d'Aubigny proudly stands opposite a huge sword surrounded by water and rocks: the monument of the Auld Alliance, symbol of the alliance sealed between France and Scotland in 1295 against the common enemy, the English. Owned by the city since 1812, it now houses the Aubigny-sur-Nère city hall and the Auld Alliance Interpretation Center: dive into the fascinating history that links Scotland to Aubigny-sur-Nère (classic visit and escape game!)
