Museum of Savignéen

The museum is housed in a fine XVIIIth-century building. Since 1974 it has been home to a collection of marine (coral, mollusc shells, sharks' teeth, urchins etc.) and land (teeth from rhinoceros, mastodons, monkeys, crocodiles…) fossils. They were excavated from the crushed-shell sand soil known a 'falun', having been deposited in the 'Faluns Sea' which covered the Touraine region some 15 million years ago. The museum also offers a glimpse at the everyday life of our not-so-distant ancestors, with clothes and tools along with a fine collection of Langeais porcelain.
