Far from the image of a crypt, it is a masterpiece presenting an overview of the arts of the 19th century. Sculptures and stained glass bear testimony to the artistic output of the industrial revolution. Some of the greatest names feature there: Delacroix, Millet, Lenoir, Mercié, Viollet-le-Duc, Flandrin, Larivière, etc. The architecture is a work of art in its own right. Its Neo-Gothic style was the work of Lefranc and is a moving tribute to the eclectic tastes of the 19th century.
