DOMAINE DE CANDE
Monument
There have been countless owners up to the 20th century. Three of them played a vital role and epitomised modern times: François Briçonnet (Head of King Louis XII’s Chambre aux Deniers); Santiago Drake del Castillo (Anglo-Cuban businessman); Charles and Fern Bedaux (Franco-American billionaire). The Candé estate peaked in media fame in 1937 when it hosted the Duke of Windsor and Wallis Simpson’s wedding. The trails and footpaths are ideal for experiencing the estate’s natural and technical legacy...amazing age-old trees, protected flora and fauna, telephone exchange, waterworks, bathrooms, 1930s sports equipment, Skinner residence Organ etc.
Gardens
Stroll around a 250ha park and explore the organic vegetable garden, heritage orchard, age-old trees, footpaths and new play areas: the quirky ride, the great ride, Drake the dragon, the dragon’s breath, massage suits, huts on stilts, the oak’s goat and more.
