Prairie Saint Gildas

Situated on the banks of the Indre, this natural wetland of 25 hectares is a special area providing shelter for the particularly rich fauna and flora which has taken over here. Many species are established.
The valley of Ebbes refers to Ebbes the Noble, lord of Déols in the 10th century, who was at the origin of the construction of the city. This valley stretches along the Indre river, from Déols to Saint-Maur via Châteauroux. It is an area of open nature just a stone's throw from the town centre. There is a leisure area around the Lake Belle-Isle, sensitive natural areas such as the Chénevières Ecoparc or the Saint-Gildas meadow, and wet meadows with ponds and water reservoirs. The green Ebbes valley offers almost ten kilometres of walking, cycling or even canoeing. Known for its rich fish stocks, it is also popular with fishermen.
