Not to be missed: the International Garden Festival

The International Garden Festival acts as an ambassador for Chaumont-sur-Loire beyond French borders. Whether in art or landscaping, the Château advocates creativity in all its forms, from its old stones to the luscious backdrop of its ancient park.
Accredited as a “Jardin Remarquable”, a French label indicating gardens of outstanding quality, the park boasts an impressive botanical collection. Included in this are its ancient cedars and rare varieties of trees which fill the gardens with exquisite fragrances from the very first days of spring, which is when the famous International Garden Festival begins. Dedicated to creating contemporary landscapes, this event has become a benchmark in the worlds of horticulture and plant art. Landscapers and gardeners from across the globe work together on designing some thirty gardens, with a different theme each year. Each one must create a nature-inspired artwork bearing testimony to the fruits of their imagination. Every year we see radical scenography demonstrating new elements of originality, contemporality, surprise, enchantment and much more.

For more than twenty years various gardens in the estate, such as the Vallon des Brumes, the Jardin Potager and the Parc du Goualoup, have played host to permanent experimental gardens which evolve over the course of the seasons. In summer, the Festival gardens may be visited at night, where impressive light shows create a magical atmosphere and reveal some hidden gems you may have missed by daylight!
