His stays in the Gâtinais region were punctuated by trips by canoe between Antwerp and Pontoise, with the donkey Modestine in the Cévennes and along the Loing to Châtillon-sur-Loi

From Grez-sur-Loing, where he met Fanny Osbourne, the love of his life, Stevenson walked through a unique landscape, formed by the sands, plains and chaos of the Fontainebleau sandstone.
From Souppes-sur-Loing, everything changes. The path mainly follows a network of rivers and canals that link the Loire to the Seine. Today the traffic is limited to pleasure boating but, following the path bathed in a soft light, one can observe the evolution of hydraulic works over the last 300 years and admire great achievements such as the 7 locks of Rogny, the bridge-canal of Briare built by Léonce-Abel Mazoyer or the lock of Mantelot, the current end point of the route.
