Pont-canal de la Tranchasse

96-metre long canal bridge crossing the Cher between the communes of Ainay-le-Vieil and Colombiers.
Description
Built between 1829 and 1834 to cross the Cher between the towns of Ainay-le-Vieil and Colombiers, the 96-metre long Tranchasse canal bridge is the longest structure on the Canal de Berry. In 1872, with the increase in traffic, the width of the waterway was doubled to allow barges to cross. Listed in the supplementary inventory of Historic Monuments since 15 April 2009, it is mainly frequented by cyclists on the route from Saint-Amand-Montrond to Montluçon. The dirt road around the lockmaster's house leads to a beach on the banks of the Cher from which the entire structure can be seen.
