Musée des meules et des pavés d'Epernon

Located in 19th-century stables, the conservatory bears testimony to the work and social life of quarrymen in the last century. It also has temporary and themed exhibitions on bread.
Description
The sandstone and millstone quarries played an important economic role in the 19th century, becoming the number one local industry and involving thousands of employees. It was an industry with international reach as the sandstone went to Paris by freight train whilst the millstone was exported to countries all over the world. The noise of picks and hammers stopped, the dust settled, but the men were never forgotten. The conservatory reconstitutes the difficulties and dangers of this type of work for workers… Tools and working methods are on show.
