Orléans was a cradle for the rose and, from 1850, the "roses" sector represented a very important part of its horticultural activity.
Description
From 1950 onwards, Orléans was the rose capital and alone supplied more than a quarter of French production, thanks to the creative activity and dynamism of many breeders and producers whose names have remained famous in the world of roses. Orléans has been able to promote this heritage, which is deeply rooted in its soil, by promoting its International Rose Competition for over 50 years, by creating remarkable gardens dedicated to roses and by bringing back to life the old varieties from Orléans. Several sites bear witness to the historical and cultural importance of rose growing in Orléans, all different and full of attractions, introducing roses to the route elsewhere in the Loiret. Site of excellence of the Loiret Rose Route.
