Fontgombault abbey

With a simple but impressive architecture, the Abbey church is one of the most significant religious structures in the Brenne. Shop with homemade monastic products. Pottery exhibition and sale.
Description
Founded in the 11th century on the right bank of the Creuse, Fontgombault Abbey was destroyed several times and looted particularly during the Wars of Religion and the French Revolution. Restored in the 19th century, this astonishing architectural ensemble, impressive yet simple, today accommodates a community of Benedictine monks. It is a very popular place for spiritual retreat due to its peaceful, quiet setting in this pretty corner of Brenne.
