Accueil Eglise Saint-Martin – Berry Roman
About the monument :
The church of Ineuil, which was listed among the possessions of the Abbey of Déols in 1115, is an elegant building. Although the nave with its sexpartite rib vaults dates from the 13th century, the superb chevet has retained its Romanesque layout. It has a central, angular apse with three windows and flanked by the two circular apse chapels of the transept. Two “benches” occupy the space between the choir and the apse chapels. Inside, the roof of the transept crossing is composed of a dome with pendentives. These create a smoother transition between the square base and oval shape of the dome than the offest squinches found elsewhere in Berry.
