Description
Saint Blaise was an Armenian bishop and physician decapitated in the 4th century. His cult spread largely through the West during the Middle Ages. He is the patron saint of this church, which was listed in 1115 as a priory dependent on the abbey of Déols The robust flying buttresses extending above the square next to the road seem to anchor the church to the ground and give the building a Gothic air that belies the structure of the building. It is in fact one of the most beautiful Romanesque monuments in Cher. The choir would appear to have been built circa 1100 and the nave just after. The staggered chapels, a popular feature in Berry, confer varying proportions of volume to the chevet to the greatest effect.
