Accueil Eglise Notre Dame
An intelligent restoration has just returned all its beauty to this old Villeloin Abey outbuilding, an authentic Romanesque gem in Berry.
Description
Its single nave with three bays, received a Gothic vaulting later with flamboyant ribbing. Gothic wall paintings were unearthed in the nave, including at the base of the bell tower on the north wall of the last bay. The semicircular choir is the most beautiful part of the building. Its exterior decor features lovely modillions separated by metopes. The restoration brought back exceptional painted pieces reminding us that the Romans had good taste for colour.
