The château de la Rivière was built at the beginning of the 17th century by the first Chancellor of Aligre. The château and its outbuildings were completed in 1629. The château de la Rivière is a very elegant early 17th century design and little has been altered in four centuries. The main body of the Château was built in 1628, the outbuildings in 1629. The architecture is simple and very graceful, using local materials from Grisy-sur-Seine, sandstone, and bricks. The château is built in a line, with light crossing through the rooms. The outbuildings are in a U-shape, closing off the courtyard in front of the château The grounds are surrounded by moats in front of a network of canals, linked to the Eure, which flows between the château and the star-shaped park.
