In the Indre Valley, the Château de Saché, the place from which Honoré de Balzac drew most of his inspiration, was built in the Middle Ages, altered in the Renaissance then converted into a comfortable home in the 19th century.
Description
A Touraine native, Honoré de Balzac stayed in a friend's castle from 1830 to 1837, in Saché, in the Indre valley. Built in the Middle Ages and remodelled during the Renaissance, it became a comfortable residence in the 19th century, surrounded by a garden planted with trees. The sitting room still has its original wallpaper, and the little room where the prolific writer wrote part of Père Goriot and the beginning of Illusions perdues is a touching surprise.
