Philidor, enfant de Dreux

The Musée d'Art et d'Histoire de Dreux invites you to discover the talented destiny of François-André Danican Philidor (1726-1795). Born almost 300 years ago in the house that bears his name, in the heart of the park on the royal estate, Philidor won an immense reputation in chess circles for his exceptional play and the publication of L?Analyse des Échecs, which remains an authority to this day. An emblematic composer of French music in the second half of the 18th century, Philidor is considered one of the founders of opéra-comique. It is this talented and unique combination of genres that Dreux intends to celebrate on the occasion of the tercentenary of Philidor's birth.
