From 1951 to 1967, Châteauroux hosted a NATO military base. We invite you to discover this period which deeply marked the history of the city!

Châteauroux is also the "American way of life"! From 1951 to 1967, Châteauroux lived to the rhythm of the 10,000 Americans based at the Châteauroux-Déols airport and the La Martinerie base. Everything changed, everything accelerated: Cadillacs, jazz cafés, jeans, chewing gum, hamburgers, etc. turned the daily life of the Berrichons upside down in the wake of Victory.
