The Association pour la Sauvegarde des Sites de Cluis invites you to discover the many wash-houses in our countryside, on a hike suitable for young and old alike! This local rural heritage preserves the memory of a past way of life, when women used to get together to wash their clothes and chat freely. The arrival of running water and electricity in the 1950s and 1960s made life easier for the washerwomen, who then gradually abandoned these places built just a century before at the end of the 18th century.
