For over forty years, Christian Lhopital (b. 1953) has been developing a body of work based essentially on the practice of drawing, whether on paper, canvas or large-scale murals.
His fluid, complex compositions give rise to an abundant, poetic universe, marked by childhood and its recurring figures, sometimes taking the form of mental projections (on the verge of appearing or disappearing) that we don't know whether they're the product of a dream or a nightmare.
Since 1999, his drawings have taken over walls, which he covers with graphite powder, rubbing in with rags to produce subtle, silky, sensual grays.
The exhibition revolves around a large-scale graphite-powder mural (3m x 14m) occupying the back wall of the main hall. The mural will be accompanied by an exhibition of some fifty drawings on paper, in various formats, as part of an immersive, experimental approach….
