As part of the Heritage Days program, the town of Le Blanc is offering English music from the Elizabethan period with the Jacques Moderne ensemble.
English music of the Elizabethan period is marked by a sovereign elegance, tinged with the modest melancholy that makes it unique. Thus, in their settings of the Lamentations, Anthems and Motets, White, Tallis and Byrd infuse their sumptuous sound textures with unspeakable emotional power.
Alternating with the brilliance of the great choral polyphonies, we discover the intimacy of the spiritual madrigals composed by Byrd, Gibbons, Wilbye & Dowland on texts from William Leighton?s “teares or lamentacions of a sorrowfull soule”.
