MA DAME, TRESGENTE ET BELLE – Chansons courtoises from Loire Valley manuscripts – 15th century. The finest French chansons of the 15th century. This program features songs from the end of the reign of Charles VII and the reign of Louis XI, dating from around 1450 to 1480. These musical works were collected in elegant portable books, smaller than a modern paperback, called “chansonniers”. They testify to a new genre held in high esteem, combining poetry, music and illumination. These poems, skilfully set to music, are a veritable pleasure garden, revealing the intimate sphere of courtly culture.
