The archaeological museum of Martizay offers several workshops designed in two parts: first a presentation based on the museum's collections (murals, paving …) and then a workshop to try out the techniques of antiquity.
The mural paintings of the Gallo-Roman villa discovered on the site of Saint-Romain in Martizay used the fresco technique. They were made with pigments diluted in water applied to a fresh plaster made up of sand and lime which allowed the pigments to penetrate the support and thus last longer.
In Italy, but also in Armorica, many frescoes with shell inlays have been found.
The workshop will be preceded by a visit to the museum’s mural painting room.
Using plasterboard as a support, each participant will make a painting on wet plaster with the motifs of his or her choice. Different shells will be used to make inlays.
