Local produce and specialities

The Loire Valley is full of so much tasty produce! Its fertile soils allow excellent fruit and vegetables to be grown including asparagus, Nantes lamb's lettuce, apples and pears. The river Loire offers excellent fish such as zander and pike, caught early in the morning, and the coastline is bursting with fine fish and seafood. Let's not forget the quality meat such as Géline de Touraine chicken or Rouge des Prés beef. As for its delicious and famous cheeses, what more can be said? Local varieties include Curé Nantais, Sainte-Maure de Touraine and Selles-sur-Cher. The entire Loire Valley abounds with excellent produce, even its underground cellars which are home to vast mushroom farms! All of these products can be enjoyed with condiments and accompaniements which are also produced locally, including saffron, Sel de Guérande or Orléans Vinegar.
