Large beaches and little coves

The very essence of the Loire Valley, the ‘royal river’, flows directly towards the Atlantic coast where there is a delightful series of long beaches and hidden little coves! From the fine sandy beach of Saint-Brevin-les-Pins to the wild coastline near Croisic, discover the best places to make the most of the sea air as a family.

The big beaches

One of the must-see beaches on the Atlantic coast is at Saint-Brevin-les-Pins. With 8 kilometres of fine sand, lots of footpaths and a forest running along the coastline, this beach is perfect for walkers (the villas are worth going to see) and swimmers. It’s also a favourite spot for lovers of windsurfing, sand yachting and kitesurfing, and is a great place for children with plenty of space for making sandcastles.

But Saint-Brevin isn’t the only beach worth seeing! Further south, stop off at the beautiful beach of La Bernerie-en-Retz

To the north, on the Côte d’Amour, don’t miss out on a visit to the bay of La Baule, which is considered one of the most beautiful bays in the world. The incredibly fine white sand must have something to do with it…

Secret coves and wild coastlines

As well as the vast beaches of the Loire Valley there are also delightful little coves scattered along the coastline.

Take for example Pornic, an adorable seaside resort with an incredible number of hidden little treasure coves for you to enjoy all for yourself! Stumble across them while walking along the beaches of Pormain, Porteau or Sablons.

But the coves aren’t the only things worth seeing in Pornic. With an ice-cream in hand, take the time to discover its château, seaside villas and port.

Further afield, the wild coast of Croisic will enthral you with the beauty of its rocky cliffs (like at Batz-sur-Mer), which are also interspersed with little coves and caves where you can cut yourself off from the world with your family.
