Lakes and swimming spots on the banks of the Loire

Sandcastles, sunbathing and swimming aren’t just for holidays by the sea! There are plenty of lakes and reservoirs along the length of the Loire where you can relax and have fun with the children.
Sometimes located in unusual places, they are well looked-after and are supervised by lifeguards in summer.

Unusual bathing spots: the islands of the Loire and a former quarry

On Millocheau Island, in Saumur, children won’t be splashing around in the Loire itself, but almost! At the heart of the island lies a pleasant lake supervised by lifeguards with plenty of choice nearby to entertain youngsters.

Very close to Orléans, in Saint-Jean-le-Blanc, Charlemagne Island offers a huge 70-hectare leisure complex, nearly half of which consists of lakes! Here you can devote yourself to swimming, canoeing, windsurfing, kite-flying and lots of other outdoor sports including beach volleyball, boules and basketball. There are even refreshment areas if you fancy a bite to eat.

A former quarry - now there’s a rather unusual place to go for a swim! Head to la Roche Ballue in Bouguenais (near Nantes) where a 3000m² lake awaits you! All year round you can meet with friends, practice sports and learn about the environment in the 13 hectares of green space at la Roche Ballue.

Beaches, lakes and swimming pools as close as can be to the river Loire

In Ingrandes you can enjoy the luxury of bathing in the ‘royal river’. In fact, it’s one of the last places where you’re allowed to do so! In an idyllic setting right next to the magnificent bridge, this ephemeral pool (supervised by lifeguards) appears naturally every year. The huge beach is perfect for relaxing in the sun, picnics and games, and there are even showering facilities.

Although you won’t be swimming in the Loire itself in Blois, you can enjoy wonderful views of it while swimming in the Loire Lake swimming pool. This is an ideal place for relaxing, swimming in the 25-metre pool, having fun with the children in the paddling pool or even canoeing on the lake.

In Chemillé-sur-Indrois, the leisure park is also an ideal spot to swim and unwind as a family.
