DOMAINE DE LA GARENNE

VALENCAY - 36

The hunting lodge testifies to the development of the Valençay estate, beyond the Nahon with star-shaped forest roads. The semicircular pavilion on two levels, of antique style, was built in 1807 at the request of Charles Maurice de Talleyrand-Périgord. Prince de Bénévent is the work of architects Renard and Bonnard. Set on a circular lawn with moats and gardens, the lodge is a gathering place for old-style hunting, different from the vernacular architecture of neighbouring buildings. This pavilion is accompanied by two annexes, one used as a coach shed, the other a stable. The buildings are listed in the historic monumuments register (ISMH).
