Visits and events at the Royal Château of Blois

Situated on the banks of the Loire in the heart of the city, the Royal Château of Blois invites visitors to discover several centuries of history. In 2021, events, exhibitions and the sound and light show will plunge you into the heart of French history once again!

The Château of Blois: four centuries of history

The four wings around the cobbled courtyard of the Royal Château of Blois each tell the story of a different period in the history of France. The red bricks and elegant gallery of the Louis XII wing, the semi-external staircase of the Francis I wing and the classical refinement of the Gaston of Orléans wing all reveal different architectural styes in fashion over the centuries.
Inside the château, pick up a HistoPad and enjoy a visit in augmented reality! This fun and immersive tour will guide you through 15 rooms. Handle and try out objects from the past, discover all the details of a painting, immerse yourself in the past and see the original decoration of the rooms from days gone by or take part in a virtual treasure hunt... Once the residence of 7 kings and 10 queens of France, the Royal Château of Blois will soon hold no secrets for you, from the vast Estates-General room to the kitchens in the Francis I wing!

Events at the Royal Château of Blois in 2021

Every year, the Royal Château of Blois comes alive with a multitude of events to enjoy with friends and family.

Exhibition: “A Château in 100 snapshots”: see the château from every angle!
This decidedly unusual exhibition offers a new take on the Royal Château of Blois and its collections and residents. See things from a new angle, take a look at hidden treasures and step away from the “picture postcard” image: this is the concept of “A Château in 100 Snapshots”.  A series of large-format photographs displayed in different indoor and outdoor locations and depicting the architecture, colours and materials of the château, while questioning the passing of time and the overlapping of eras. Photograph yourself in the photobooth in front of one of nine backgrounds from the château and take home a souvenir of your visit!
Practical information: “A Château in 100 snapshots” exhibition - until 11 October 2021
Exhibition: “The Painting by Martial Raysse”: a touch of humour and Pop Art at the Royal Château of Blois!
“Made in Japan. La Grande Odalisque” is an iconic painting in the history of art by Martial Raysse and is on display in the Royal Château of Blois. It is a pastiche of the work by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres and its bright colours and striking aesthetic fit in perfectly with the colourful decoration of the Château of Blois. Made in the 1960s, it is similar in style to Pop Art and was a provocative denouncement of the spread of Japanese goods all over the world. For the exhibition, organised in partnership with the Centre Georges Pompidou Metz, the painting has quite naturally taken up its place at the start of the visit of the Musée des Beaux-Arts at the Château of Blois, near the Madonna with Candelabras by Ingres.
Practical information: Exhibition: “The Painting by Martial Raysse” - Musée des Beaux-Arts at the Royal Château of Blois - from 8 May to 22 November 2021
Sound and light show: “If Blois was recounted to me”
