The new museum at Fontevraud

This year, the Abbey of Fontevraud will be opening its new Modern Art Museum following the donation of 1000 works from the collections of Léon and Martine Cligman.

Resolutely focused on culture and the arts, the Abbey of Fontevraud will be boasting a brand new museum covering 1200m² in the Fannerie building. The Cligman couple, both wealthy collectors, have made a gift of part of their works which will be displayed in this impressive space alongside various temporary exhibitions. Visitors will be able to admire paintings, sculptures, drawings and glassworks by well-known figures such as Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Edgar Degas, Robert Delaunay, Germaine Richier and André Derain. With the creation of this major regional museum, the historic site of the Abbey, which already has a stage for cultural performances as well as a contemporary hotel and a Michelin-starred restaurant, is affirming its vocation as a “perfect dwelling place”.
