New Modern Art Museum

The largest monastic centre in Europe will inaugurate its own Modern Art Museum in June this year, an exceptional event for the whole of the Loire Valley.

Located in the Fanerie building, which once housed stables, the new Modern Art Museum contains 900 works in a space covering 1,200m². The first floor is dedicated to the permanent collections which are the generous donation of Martine and Léon Cligman. Over the years, this couple of art enthusiasts compiled a remarkable collection of paintings, sculptures and drawings. From Toulouse-Lautrec to Degas, Soutine, Delaunay, Rodin or Richier… works by the greatest masters in the 19th and 20th centuries share this space with antique and ethnographic objects from all over the world. The second floor is destined for temporary exhibitions, allowing the building to house a rich and varied museographic offer. With its own cultural scene, contemporary hotel, Michelin-star restaurant and now a new museum, the historic site of the Abbey of Fontevraud is without doubt a destination in its own right in the Loire Valley.
