Eglise Saint-Nazaire d'Azay-Le-Ferron

Near the château, in an open square. The visitor will notice various statues, including a magnificent Saint Barbara with her tower.
Description
The church has been listed as a historic monument since 1927 and placed under the patronage of the Saint-Cyran Abbey. There is no document relating to its construction but we know that the nave dates from the beginning of the 13th century. The building has a single nave without a transept, with a choir and an apse with sloping sides, capitals and buttresses of a width reflecting the heavy pressure they have to support. There are three statues including a pieta, paintings from the nearby château and a funerary liter with Gallifet weapons. The facade was recovered in the 19th but when coming out of the church by the lateral portal, a beautiful Roman capital was discovered, topped with curved branches (foliage) and fighting animals. 3 bells were donated by Gallifet and the Hersen family.
