Accueil Eglise Saint-Laurian
The neo-gothic style church, built by H. Dauvergne, has a nave with four bays, a transept with two apsidal chapels. The choir, the only element prior to the 1894 renovation, offers a sample of Angevin art in Berry.
Description
The choir is composed of a straight span ending in a three-sided apse, on the ground it is more complex in elevation: leafy keys join parallel ribs, divided at their ends into two branches resting on small columns supported by bases decorated with crests and framed with various motifs representing an angel, monsters, animals and figures. Three chapels in the choir replace 15th-century enfeux. In the south wall, only a bone from the martyr's arm was spared by the fire set by the Protestants in 1563. A plaque on the south wall evokes the memory of Saint Sulpice, born in Vatan in 570, who became Archbishop of Bourges from 624 to 647. The west door of the nave dating from 1498 and traces of 18th century murals attract curiosity.
