Exposition La République des oiseaux

The Friday 13 December at 14 a.m00
Avenue George Sand Square George Sand Hôtel de Villaines 36400 LA CHATRE
The museum has chosen to highlight a selection of specimens from its ornithological collection: a total of 2,480 specimens from the 18th and 19th centuries, from all continents, some brought back during scientific expeditions.
The exhibition looks at the great scientific collections of the 19th century, through the figures of Emmanuel (1742-1801) and François (1778-1855) Baillon, who built up this unique collection. The collection?s fragility and the presence of endangered and extinct species raise questions about our contemporary relationship with nature and our impact on it, more than two centuries after its creation. To enrich this reflection, the museum has invited contemporary pointillist artist Alexandre PALEZIS to take up a residency. His approach, based on the "long" past, raises questions about the future. His small-dot, almost microscopic work is reminiscent of the scientific plates used by early exploratory artists.
