Conférence UPOP – "Le Mont Saint Michel, histoire et architecture de la merveille de l'occident"

The Wednesday 02 April
Rue de la Grenouille 36200 ARGENTON-SUR-CREUSE
The Université Populaire d'Argenton-sur-Creuse is organizing a lecture on the theme of "Le Mont Saint Michel: histoire et architecture de la merveille de l'occident", by Olivier Mignon, holder of a master's degree in medieval history and guide-lecturer.
Occupied by hermits in early Merovingian times, Mount Tombe. was consecrated to the Archangel Michael in the 8th century. Initially served by canons, the sanctuary was entrusted to a Benedictine community after the foundation of Normandy. These monks were at the origin of an exceptional project undertaken in 1023, just over a thousand years ago. They built a large abbey church in the shape of a Latin cross at the top of the islet to honour the prince of the heavenly militia, house prestigious relics and welcome ever-growing numbers of pilgrims. This anniversary, the millennium, is the ideal time to revisit the history and prodigious architecture of the wonder of the West.
