Conference "Les orléanaises dans la tourmente" (Orlean women in the turmoil)
On July 31, 1944, 17 people were arrested by the Orléans Gestapo for taking part in or helping the Samatha maquis.
Among them were what we shall call the “Samatha Ladies”: Bérangère Toutin, Lucienne Mallet and Andrée Gibault. They were among the Orléans women arrested in July 1944 for their involvement in the parachuting of weapons into Samatha, an estate in the commune of Sandillon, south-east of Orléans. They were imprisoned and held in internment camps in France, before being deported to Ravensbrück, Torgau, Abterode and Markleeberg. They did not return from Germany until late May/early June 1945.
