Who knows Pierre Loti today? His image remains that of a travel writer. Yet his work is as much autofiction as romantic literature, in the wake of George Sand.
His travels have taken him to Europe, the Middle East and Asia. East and Asia. His taste for beauty led him to write as well as paint, and also to remodel his house into a paradise of curiosities, which reopened in June 2025 after thirteen years of closure.
Pierre Loti is a literary chameleon, so much so that, having emerged from the Belle Epoque, he seems very contemporary today.
